DE überblasen wind technique advanced Support my free tools
How is überblasen played?
Increase and redirect air support while coordinating embouchure, voicing, reed pressure and any register vent or fingering needed for the intended higher resonance. The interval is instrument-specific: flute-like bores, clarinet-like closed cylindrical bores, conical reeds and brass harmonic series do not overblow in one identical pattern. Follow the written target pitch or partial and dynamic rather than simply blowing as hard as possible. A transition can be clean, unstable or noisy by local design, but the word alone does not require distortion, a multiphonic or a fixed register.
How does überblasen sound?
Register shift or overtone-based effect.
In context
Überblasen names the process of shifting an air column to a higher resonance or partial. Acoustic sources show that the accessible sequence and adjustments depend on the instrument’s bore and tone generator, so no universal octave, twelfth, air pressure or colour is implied. It can contribute to harmonics or some multiphonics, but a single overblown partial is not itself a Mehrklang. No exact abbreviation reached three independent direct expansions, so überblasen remains written out.
