DE springend bowing advanced Support my free tools
How is springend played?
Use the bow’s elasticity so it leaves and returns to the string, then read dots, slurs, bow-direction signs, tempo and grouping to choose the stroke. Spiccato normally gives separately controlled bouncing strokes, sautillé uses a rapid natural spring, and ricochet or jeté can place several rebounds under one thrown impulse; springend alone does not collapse those patterns into one technique.
How does springend sound?
Light, bouncing articulation.
In context
The Ševčík–Feuillard bowing legend pairs German geworfen oder springend with French jeté ou sautillé in a specific exercise context. Historical bowing research distinguishes springing or hopping from ricochet or thrown categories, and Vienna Symphonic Library distinguishes spiccato, sautillé and ricochet by stroke organization. The full German word remains safest; no stable abbreviation was found.
