How is senza pedale played?

Release and avoid the right-hand damper pedal so each damper returns when its key is released and no extra pedal resonance joins successive harmonies. Observe the written note values, ties and finger legato rather than shortening every note automatically. The instruction can cancel a preceding con pedale or establish a deliberately clear, bare texture; it concerns the conventional damper pedal, not una corda, sostenuto or harp pitch pedals.

How does senza pedale sound?

The listener hears a dry, articulate texture in which notes stop as soon as the fingers leave the keys, with no blurring or after-ring.

In context

Senza pedale is the standard Italian opposite of con pedale in piano writing. It explicitly excludes the damper pedal for the marked span, producing clearer separation and less after-ring while leaving articulation and duration to the score. No proposed shortening of the complete phrase received three independent direct expansions, so senza pedale remains written out.
