How is ricochet played?
Throw or drop the bow onto the string and let its elasticity generate a quick series of bounces. The common result is two to six or more articulations in one down-bow; up-bow ricochet is possible but harder. The notation or score legend must determine the required number, rhythm and degree of control, because ricochet, jeté and gettato overlap in some traditions without making every rebound term universally identical.
How does ricochet sound?
Several quick, bouncing bow strokes.
In context
Ricochet bowing turns one thrown attack into several diminishing or controlled rebounds on the string. Professional orchestration sources describe the one-direction mechanism, while three independent scores attest ric. as a short form. Dots, a slur, stems, bow-direction signs or a local legend may specify the group more precisely; ric. alone does not guarantee an exact rebound count.
