How is Präparierung played?
Install or verify the preparation exactly as the score’s table or legend specifies, identifying each affected note or string, the object and material, insertion point or distance, and any tuning or removal procedure. Coordinate with the piano owner or technician before touching the instrument and use only approved methods. Präparierung does not by itself tell the performer what gesture to play afterward, nor does it identify one universal prepared sound.
