How is ohne Pedal played?

Keep the right-hand damper pedal released so damped strings stop when their keys are released, while still observing written note lengths, ties, articulation and any achievable finger legato. Unlike a momentary Pedal aufheben instruction, ohne Pedal normally governs a span and explicitly prohibits damper-pedal use there. It does not automatically cancel una corda or sostenuto directions unless the local notation makes that scope clear.

How does ohne Pedal sound?

The listener hears a dry, clear texture in which each note ends as the finger lifts, with no added resonance or blur.

In context

Ohne Pedal is the German instruction to play a passage without damper pedal; ohne Ped. is accepted because three independent musical references directly expand that exact form. The result is usually less accumulated resonance, but dryness, separation and colour still depend on touch, articulation, register, instrument and room.
