Nur Luft means air only: foreground breath or air noise and suppress the normal sustained pitched tone for the marked passage; write the phrase in full.

How is nur Luft played?

Blow through, into or across the instrument using the locally appropriate fingering and embouchure while preventing the ordinary tone generator from settling into a normal pitched sound. The tube or fingering can still colour the noise and may leave a resonant pitch trace, so air only does not mean acoustical silence or zero resonance. Follow notated rhythm and dynamic, and do not add key clicks, vocalization, tongue ram or a fixed embouchure unless specified. Instrument and legend determine onset, degree of residual pitch and cancellation.

How does nur Luft sound?

Pure air sound without an actual tone.

In context

Nur Luft explicitly prioritizes air alone over the normal instrumental tone. It is stronger in scope than mit viel Luft, which can retain a substantial pitched core, but can overlap practically with Luftgeräusch or ohne Ton when a score defines them that way. Those lexical relations do not make their short forms or every realization identical. No exact candidate met the three-source threshold, so nur Luft remains written out.
