How is modo ordinario played?
Cancel the currently active special technique and resume the ordinary state defined by the score. Read the scope locally: ord. may restore normal bow position, pressure or hair contact without automatically changing an independently active mute, vibrato instruction or other parameter. It remains in force until a new playing technique is marked.
How does modo ordinario sound?
Normal playing replaces the special technique.

Primary score legends and performance guides repeatedly expand ord. as ordinario and use it to return from special string techniques. The full phrase modo ordinario serves the same practical function, but m.o. and modo ord. did not reach the evidence threshold. Naturale, normale, arco and position ordinaria can also cancel particular effects in particular scores; they are alternative words or narrower returns, not abbreviations of modo ordinario.
