How is grazioso played?

The performer shapes the line with poise, lightness and refined phrasing, avoiding heaviness or aggression. Composers commonly pair grazioso with a tempo word to soften and refine it, as in 'Andante grazioso' or 'Adagio grazioso'. Beethoven marks the slow movement of his Piano Sonata No. 16 in G major, Op. 31 No. 1, 'Adagio grazioso', an ornate, songful movement whose elegance the word makes explicit. The marking guides touch, rubato and ornament toward charm rather than force.

How does grazioso sound?

The music sounds elegant, supple and gracious, with a light and well-mannered character.
