How is flüsternd played?
Produce a restrained, speech-like or breath-inflected quality appropriate to the instrument and context. On a voice this may involve actual whispering; on a wind instrument it may suggest softened attack, audible air or reduced tonal focus, but it does not automatically remove pitch or require one embouchure. Observe the written dynamic rather than equating whispering with inaudible playing, and keep articulation, duration and phonetic text separate unless the score links them explicitly.
