How is estatico played?

The performer projects a sense of rapture and transcendence, often through suspended, glowing sonority and an out-of-time stillness or, conversely, overwhelming intensity. The word belongs to the heightened, spiritual vocabulary that twentieth-century composers favoured for moments of visionary or religious exaltation. Its French cousin extatique appears explicitly in Messiaen, whose fifth movement of the Quartet for the End of Time is marked 'infiniment lent, extatique' ('infinitely slow, ecstatic'). The marking concerns affect and atmosphere rather than a measurable tempo.

How does estatico sound?

The music sounds rapturous and transported, with an intense, often suspended, visionary quality.

In context

Estatico means 'ecstatic'. The closely related French extatique is used by Olivier Messiaen, who marks the fifth movement of his Quartet for the End of Time 'infiniment lent, extatique'.
