How is avec l’archet played?
Use the bow again, typically after pizzicato, pincé or another non-bowed technique. Ordinary bow hair and normal contact are assumed unless the score also specifies wood, position, pressure or another bowing detail. Italian arco or con arco can serve the same practical return, but they are separate language forms rather than abbreviations of the French phrase.

Littré explains that pizz. marks plucked playing and con arco, glossed avec l’archet, ends it; Guiraud likewise uses pizz. followed by the full Italian word arco. Musicca lists avec l’archet as a French phrase and ar./arc. only for the noun archet. No stable abbreviation of the complete French direction was found.
