Sost. — sostenuto pedal
The Sost. mark engages the piano's sostenuto pedal, selectively sustaining notes whose keys are already depressed when the pedal is pressed. Later notes are not automatically sustained by it; a line or release mark shows the pedal's span.

Do not confuse it with
The damper pedal raises all dampers; sostenuto captures only the notes held at its moment of engagement.
