Double sharp
A double sharp raises the written pitch by two semitones, or one whole tone. It preserves the note's letter spelling for harmonic and voice-leading purposes rather than replacing it with an enharmonic note name.
- Accidentals
- Just before the note
- A cross or plus
Do not confuse it with
A single sharp raises one semitone; the double-sharp sign raises two.
