In 2024, young composers again wrote for the sound wells at Bent Fabricius-Bjerres Plads: a public space where music is not placed in front of an audience, but around them.
The square is large enough that people can move through the sound field — walking between the wells, cycling across the music, or even circling the sound image on electric scooters. That physical scale changes the compositional problem. A piece no longer behaves like a fixed concert object. It becomes something the listener enters, leaves, crosses and overhears.
That is precisely why the project is valuable for young composers: it forces them to think about musical form as space, distance, movement and public attention.
