I am joining the jury for KORAL this autumn, together with composer Veronika Voetmann, under the direction of Andreas Werenfeldt, who leads the competition’s workshop programme.
KORAL is a competition for choral composers under thirty, built to give the next generation of Danish choral music somewhere real to grow. So far very few women have taken part, and this autumn’s workshop, “Komponistens værksted,” exists to change that — to support and encourage women composers to write more music for choir. It gathers women and non-binary composers under thirty-five, or still in education, around Vokalensemblet VIGDIS at Mariakirken in Copenhagen on 15 November.
Submissions (SSAA, a cappella, PDF) are due 19 October. The workshop is free. KORAL covers travel for composers coming from far away.
I look forward to hearing what these young composers make of the chance.
