Komponistspirer III was a workshop and concert for my composition students, centred on the wind quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon.
The concert took place at Metronomen on 10 August 2019. The quintet was performed by Solveig Cecilie Kaae, flute; Anna Sofia Bennike, oboe; Mads Gottenborg Holtenbang, clarinet; Niels Aamand Pedersen, horn; and Britta Cortabarria, bassoon.
Several of the programme notes show young composers already working with quite specific ideas rather than neutral student exercises. Bjarke Tan’s quintet was inspired by the harmony Liszt uses in his Dante Symphony. Jonas Wiinblad Schmidt’s Et hårdt liv dealt with work, class, innocence and the burden of simply being human. Pelle Nyhuus’s Paranoid moved around fear, shadows, persecution, darkness, psychosis and anxiety. Daniel Sepehri’s Kompromis treated compromise as a human and emotional condition.
