On 8 May 2026, Head of Classical Jonas Bille Gamkjær and editor Katrine Gislinge kindly invited Daniel Fladmose’s MGK composition class to visit Edition Wilhelm Hansen / Wise Music in Copenhagen.
For the students, it was a chance to see a part of musical life that young composers do not always meet directly. What happens to a score after it has been written? How does a publisher look at notation, repertoire, editing, rights and the practical life of composed music?
The visit gave the students a concrete impression of how a score can travel beyond the lesson room: into a catalogue, into the hands of performers, into rehearsal, and sometimes into a much longer musical life than the composer first imagined.
It was also a reminder that composition is not only about having ideas. It is also about making those ideas readable, usable and strong enough to meet the world outside the desk.
